Assertive sentence: এই ধরণের বাক্য কোন ঘটনাকে বর্ণনা করে।
Structure: Subject + Verb + Extension-এরূপ হয়ে থাকে। এখানে Extension মানে Verb পরবর্তী সবকিছু বুঝিয়ে থাকে।
যেমন:
He is a good man.
He is not a good man.
They are playing.
Classification of assertive sentence:
উপরের উদাহরণগুলো থেকেই স্পষ্ট বুঝা যায় Assertive sentence দুই প্রকার:
a. Affirmative sentence(হ্যাঁ-বোধক বাক্য)
b. Negative sentence(না-বোধক বাক্য)
a. Affirmative sentence(হ্যাঁ-বোধক বাক্য): যে বিবৃতিমূলক বা assertive sentence-এ কোন কিছুর সম্বন্ধে হ্যাঁ-বোধক উক্তি করে তাকে বলে Affirmative sentence. যেমন:
I do it. (আমি একাজ করি)
He is a boy. (সে একজন বালক)
Man is mortal. (মানুষ মরণশীল)
They came here. (তারা এখানে এসেছিল)
উপরের উদাহরণের কোন বাক্যকেই অস্বীকার করা হচ্ছে না। অর্থাৎ হ্যাঁ-বোধকভাবে প্রকাশিত ভাব।
b. Negative sentence(না-বোধক বাক্য): যে বিবৃতিমূলক বা assertive sentence-এ কোন কিছুর সম্বন্ধে না-বোধক উক্তি করে তাকে বলে Negative sentence।
যেমন:
He is not good. (সে ভাল নয়)
He did not come here. (সে এখানে এসেছিল)
Man is not immortal. (মানুষ অমরণশীল নয়)
I have no pen. (আমার কোন কলম নেই)
উপরের উদাহরণের সব বাক্যকেই অস্বীকার করা হচ্ছে । অর্থাৎ না-বোধকভাবে প্রকাশিত ভাব।
Affirmative থেকে Negative করার নিয়ম:
Subject + do not/does not/has not/did not/were not/was not/shall not/will not/may not/might not/can not/could not/had not + extension.
যেমন:
Affirmative: I put it on the table.
Negative: I do not put it on the table.
Affirmative: He works religiously.
Negative: He does not work religiously.
Affirmative: He ate rice.
Negative: He did not eat rice.
Affirmative: He went there.
Negative: He did not go there.
Affirmative: He may come.
Negative: He may not come.
Affirmative: He can do it.
Negative: He can not do it.
Affirmative: We shall go.
Negative: We shall not go.
Affirmative: I am a student.
Negative: I am not a student.
Affirmative: They were not tired.
Negative: They were not tired.
Affirmative: She has done this.
Negative: She has not done this.
